Another day, another chance to find a buyer and supplies. Heck, maybe he could find some food materials. Nitrox smiled at the idea of eating something better than old fruit or old animal carcasses he finds lieing about. He bounced from lamp to lamp, building ledge to ledge when something went wrong...a bolt must have come loose as he completely lost his balance and fell to the ground with a shriek.
Joshua had been on a walk that point in time. Helmet on, of course, as he wandered the third district. The microphones on his helmet picked up a.. Shriek it sounded like. Curious, the man made his way towards the sound, eyeing the smaller man who laid on the ground. He grinned and chuckled, slowly pulling off his helmet. "Well, lookie 'ere... You have a bad fall? Looks like a bolt broke. Lemme help you up.." Joshua knelt down a little and held out his hand. "I'm Joshua, by the way, who're you? If you don't mind my asking..."
"I-I'm-" Nitrox's right leg fell off the moment he stood causing him to needily cling to Joshua. "Aaaa...AAAAAA NO HELP! F-F-F-FUCK NO-O-O nooo...th-this...I-I can....I can....n-no I...I..." Nitrox shook hard, the fact that his leg was removed without his consent sent him into a frenzied panic. His grip tightened to the point that without calming he could easily puncture flesh.
Joshua remained pretty calm. "Shh, it's alright... Some of the bolts fell loose. You're alright." He reached and arm around Nitrox and gently rubbed his back, using his foot to kick the leg up to his free hand. "Just relax. We'll get back to my clinic and I'll put it back on you. No worries." Slowly, deliberately, he moved his other arm and scooped it under Nitrox's legs, easily lifting the smaller man. Disconnected leg in hand, he hesitated a moment, slightly worried he may have upset Nitrox further. "You alright?"
Nitrox shivered violently as he slowly shook his head. He adjusted his clinging as he tried to remain as calm as possible and buried his face in the crook of Joshua's neck. This happened once, sometimes more times, a year. It was always a terrible thing as he panicked so badly that getting himself fixed took days if only because of his horror at the loss of his leg. Each repair job seemed to hold out a shorter time than the last now that he thought about it....his grip tightened once more.
Joshua carried Nitrox to his clinic and, once inside, sat the man down on a metal table. He set the leg down next to Nitrox and fished out a few spare and replacement parts from a random box. One he'd gotten them, he took off his jacket. The metal arms sprouting from his back grabbed a few tools and Joshua set to replacing the bolts... And a faulty spring. Once that was done, he reattatched it. "... Want me to fix the other one, too? The springs must be worn out.. And the bolts on that don't look great, either."
Joshua chuckled. "Yes, I do. I work with a doctor here. I handle the mechanics and he handles flesh wounds. This is my clinic... I've been doing this for years." He began removing Nitrox's other leg, chatting a little as he did so. "Nihiil? That's the first time I've heard that surname. Where are you from, if you don't mind my asking?"
Joshua shushed Nitrox. "It's alright, it's alright. Just relax, you don't have to remember. I was just asking... I'm from England." He started fixing up the leg, replacing the spring and bolts. "I like your name, though. It's very unique."
"Thank you...I don't think it's mine thought....I....I don't want to talk about it..." He got the name from the doctor. He would have changed it, or returned to his old one if he could remember it, but he didn't know what else to respond to after so long. He looked around the lab, shifting a bit. It reminded him a bit of the doctor's...he shivered and tried to take his mind off such old and terrible thoughts.
Joshua smiled comfortingly and reattatched the leg. "I'm sorry this place is a mess. I haven't had much time to tidy up..." He eyed over the rest of the mods Nitrox had, the ones he could see plainly, that is. Checked his hands and eyes... "... You may want to come in once a week for a checkup to see if anything else needs replacing. You... Don't seem too eager to have a full check up right now. If you'd like to rest or relax, there's a room in the back. Be careful not to step on munchkin, though."
"N-no, I'll be fine, just...just, just bad memories...what's a Munchkin?" he said. His ears flicked and he turned to see a massive white furball scurry in and climb onto Joshua's shoulder. He had no idea what this creature was but he guessed it was a munchkin. "It looks soft...what ever it is..." he mumbled. The creature just wiggled it's nose and groomed itself.
Joshua smiled and pressed his cheek against Munchkin. "She is very soft. Would you like to hold her while I check you?" He lifted the giant chinchilla from his shoudler and held her out to Nitrox. "She's like... A therapy pet."
Oh, oh god it was on him. Nitrox shakily placed a hand on Munchkin and began to pet her. He smiled and laughed, a little uneasily. "Sh-she's so soft...." He slowly calmed down and seemed to forget about Joshua's existence as the exam continued.
Joshua laughed a bit and checked the external mods. He frowned a little. "These are really choppy..." The man narrowed his four eyes and sighed. "... What illiterate whackjob put these in?"
Nitrox gnawed on his lip, causing it to bleed and made himself stop. "I....I go-go-got...." he took a deep breath. "I was...kidnapped as a kid...a-and....I don't remember....a LOT but...it...it hurt...it hurt a lot...I-I don't...want to talk about it..." Nitrox whimpered.
Joshua pat Nitrox's shoulder. "... They were wrong to do so. I won't press on any further. Could you lean down a little? Go ahead and just press your head against Munchkin, I need to check your back." He pushed up the back of Nitrox's shirt a bit.
"B-be careful..." Nitrox mumbled. All the way down his spine, there were sensors like those on his hands. They could be found going down his sides as well. He continued to focus on Munchkin, who had fallen asleep on his lap.
Joshua shook his head a little. "These shouldn't be on the outside of your skin..." He touched one. "They're exposed. These should be under your skin. And probably have sensitivity toned down..." He pursed his lips. "Well.. I don't see anything that needs... replacing, per say, but some of these should be under your skin and less sensitive. And a few may have to be removed entirely."
"R-removed?" No...no, none of that sounded good, Nitrox shook his head. "A-all of that sounds h-h-h-horrible and pa-a-painful and bad...I-I'd rather not..." he said. He once again began shaking.
Joshua put Nitrox's shirt down. "It's alright, you'll hardly feel it. I know some people... I have quite a bit of painkillers. Mostly morphine. and the doctor I have here... No knives needed. You'll hardly feel it, even without the morphine. ... Well, you'll feel it, but it's better than being cut open."
Being cut open...Oh GOD no! Nitrox shook his head fiercely and shouted no over and over. At this point he was squeezing poor Munchkin who was wiggling about in an attempt to get away from the panicked man.
Joshua grabbed Nitrox's arms and forced him to let go of Munchkin before she decided to try and eat him. "Calm down. No knives. You're not being cut open .You're okay." He shushed him and held onto him. "You're alright.."
Nitrox instantly clung to the larger man, the contact being much needed. "No doctors...d-d-d-doctors are bad..." he whined. He made some odd sounds, as if crying, but lacked the needed parts to actually do so. A weapon didn't need to cry after all.
"Shh, you're alright..." He rubbed Nitrox's back gently, moving a hand to the back of his head. "It's alright... The doctors you knew weren't doctors... They were evil scientists.. What they did to you was horrible and unforgivable. But.. My friend and I. We help people. My friend is a good doctor. He makes people stop hurting... And sometimes, though he hates it more than anybody i've seen, he has to make people hurt a little more before they can stop hurting..."
"I don't wanna hurt...I don't wanna..." he continued to mumble the last part until he finally went limp. His energy must have run out as he blacked out. Nitrox wasn't really capable of "sleep" due to some messy wiring and programming, he would simply power down and look dead for a few hours. His breathing was barely noticeable and his pulse slowed down considerably during this state, the main thing telling he was still alive was the fact he was still warm and showed no signs of going cold.
Joshua sighed and picked Nitrox up. He moved him to the back room and laid him down on the bed, then went to go find Munchkin and hope she didn't try to bite off his hand. He worried, though. This poor man had gone through so much... He wanted to help, but it was hard. He wasn't one to get along great with people who had trauma that messed with their mental state. Didn't know how to handle it at all. All he could deal with was the clinging and crying... His thoughts changed off when he located Munchkin. "Hey, little baby.. You alright...? I'm sorry he did that, he didn't mean to... C'mere, come to daddy... M'sorry..."
Munchkin scurried over to Joshua, quickly climbing onto his shoulders. She udnerstood people could get fussy at times, but hoped Joshua would have better control the next time he expected her to be a therapy pet.
Joshua kissed the top of Munchkin's head. "I'm sorry, baby... Come on, you were very good. You get a treat." He straightened up and went to get a treat for Munchkin. once he'd given it to her, he checked on Nitrox.
Munchkin scurried off to devour her treat. Nitrox showed  no signs of waking up any time soon. He didn't even shift.
Joshua sighed and rubbed his forehead. He went and got some food.. He fixed it up and set it, and a glass of water, on the side table beside the bed he'd left Nitrox on. He smoothed back Nitrox's hair a bit and then went to tidy up.
